The EcoSafe® goal is to assist our Affiliates with the development of programs that qualify as having achieved Zero Waste as defined by the Zero
Waste International Alliance.
As the key link between waste generators and recyclers and composters, you provide service and training to your customers that differentiates your company from that of conventional “waste” haulers. Your knowledge and understanding of the local markets and equipment is a critical element in building successful Zero Waste programs.
As a responsible hauler dedicated to the principals of the Zero
Waste International Alliance, you play a key role in assisting our customers to achieve the highest possible rates of diversion of contamination-free recyclables that qualify for preferred returns and reduced tipping fees.
Your knowledge of source separation, contamination control, insect, vector and odor control are all part of your contribution as a key stakeholder and EcoSafe® Affiliate. A critical part of the program is the availability of products that perform in use and are easily identified to distinguish them from other contaminates in the waste stream.
The EcoSafe®~6400 Compostable Bags™ are your bags of choice, while the Brown Line™ products enable your drivers to quickly and easily identify potential contamination in the feed stocks.
How do you increase your volume of production without compromising product quality? EcoSafe® Zero Waste Affiliates open previously unacceptable markets and accept only uniquely identified, field tested and approved “Brown Line™ compostable” products as part of their feed stock.
Under EcoSafe® guidelines, composters implement and enforce proactive policies by controlling what compostable products can enter the waste stream, by requiring “leading practices” for source separation, hauler responsibility for inspection at pick up and rewarding good performance with incentive based tipping fees.
By setting and enforcing higher standards, you open new sources, eliminate contamination, reduce your cost of production and improve the quality of your products. The result is increased volumes of contamination free Grade “A” compost produced at lower costs and increased profits!
Our goal is to help EcoSafe® Affiliates develop source separated sustainable Zero Waste programs that result in:
- Reduced costs
- Improved quality and quantity of feed stocks
- Highest quality finished compost
- An improved bottom line
- A step closer to sustainability for our planet
EcoSafe® only recommends products that carry the BPI and/or BNQ certification and have been field tested and approved. All recommended products carry the “Brown Line™” markings that make identification in the waste stream easy and help end-users, guests, fans and home owners make split-second decisions in choosing the correct disposal bin.
The Brown Line™ program was developed by the packaging industry to support the Seattle Zero Waste Strategy program. The program is intended to help eliminate contamination in compostable feed stocks by ensuring that the compostable products are sufficiently differentiated from all the "green wash" products in the market and that they perform in use.
The open source program is available to all manufacturers in North America and endeavors to balances universal identification with the requirements and standards of the proprietary brands. Initially introduced under the Cedar Grove Packing logo, the “Brown Line™” markings are endorsed and used by most of the leading manufacturers of food service wares and packaging in North America. To carry the mark, products must be field tested and approved in a modern, technically advanced composting system that validates the more rapid compostability requirement of BPI and BNQ certified food service products and packaging.
Having products tested and approved to use the Brown Line™ identification assures distributors and end-users that your products meet the requirements for compostability in modern, short-cycle systems and will be accepted by participating composters within a geographic area. Whether an institution, major event, commercial business or processor you can help them achieve their Zero Waste goals… one community or facility at a time.
Through your affiliation with EcoSafe® Zero Waste and the marketing of EcoSafe®~6400 and Brown Line™ products, you can assure your customers that the products purchased from you are truly compostable and meet a higher standard to help them achieve their Zero Waste goals.
Unique Brown Line™ markings on products from your existing suppliers of compostable brands removes the confusion as to which products your customers should purchase to eliminate contamination in the collection of compostable waste. Brown Line™ markings:
- Validate claims for compostability
- Simplify the supply, use and disposal chain
- Help reduce contamination at the point of disposal
- Contribute to reducing the cost of disposal
- Support end-users in their efforts to achieve Zero Waste
All of this helps to offset the additional cost of sustainable compostable products. The result is good for your customers, good for your bottom line and good for the environment!
